Obama for Class President!

Other than hatred for George Bush, what is the reason for supporting Obama? How has he proven himself qualified to be President? Hillary Clinton pointed out that while McCain offered a lifetime of experience, all Obama had to bring to the office was a speech he gave a few years ago. Where is the landmark legislation he proposed? Where are the Senate bills bearing his name, the bills he worked with the opposing party to craft, like McCain/Feingold, McCain/Kennedy, McCain/Lieberman? What great business experience does he have? What executive experience? What military experience? What can anyone point to that would show that this man is uniquely qualified to be the leader of the free world? Obama's like a teenager who knows just how to fix the world, without ever having left his parent's home, he should spend some time learning before he tells everyone else how things should be done.

It is certainly true that the biggest driver for putting Obama in office is public perception of failure of the Republican party and general distaste for the current administration and its policies.

Of course the criticisms leveled against Obama could have been leveled against GWB 8 years ago...it is hard to point to any accomplishments that would have qualified George for the highest office...he was an unsuccessful businessman and governor, cheerleader, and effectively a draft dodger trading largely on his family name and connections. Unfortunately, 8 years later it is even harder to point to anything that would qualify GWB for our highest political office.

OTOH, Obama's lack of experience is worrisome and it is hard to understand why both parties can't come up with better qualified candidates...

Well, Bush was a businessman at least, and he was a governor of a very large state and was popular there. The draft dodger is sort of slanderous: he did join the TANG, he did volunteer for Vietnam (but was rejected because the F106 he flew was obsolete at that time - this was reported in Newsweek btw). Bush has had mistakes and failures, but the dems never gave him a chance or cut him any slack from day 1 (they were protesting and denying his election at the inaugural), and he has had some bad luck as well.

Obama will be eaten alive by people like Putin and Ahmadinejhad.

At best you can say Bush was no great patriot...he took advantage of his patrician connections to avoid the same military risks he now sends many less privileged young Americans to face. I find it hard to believe you are defending him on this count when you attacked John Kerry whose patriotism and military commitment were clearly far in excess of GWBs. For relatively objective discussions of the topic:

I think being a failed businessman and a military service avoider (better word?) hardly qualifies one for commander in chief...and time has proven that with GWB being one of the worst presidents in history.

That said, I agree that Obama seems to be running more of a popularity contest and avoiding tough issues. OTOH, McCain is a bit of an idiot...have you heard him speak?

I'm not sure where you get that about Bush's military service. He joined the TANG. He did volunteer for service in operation Palace Guard. Maybe he knew he wouldn't be accepted, I don't know. He served, the fact that the risk was less (though the plane he flew was notoriously dangerous, I believe it was called the widowmaker) is irrelevant. Plenty of guys served on nuclear subs or as ballistic misslemen, that does not make them draft dodgers. Kerry served, no problem (though I think he planned a lot of it for his political career), it was his tossing his medals and testifying against his comrades that I had a problem with. As far as GWB being the worst in history, he's not even the worst in the last 50 years - Jimmy Carter has him beat hands down.
