No more room in the tent!

The Governor of California, Arnold the Terminator, has called on the Republican party to move to the center, to be a 'big tent' party that welcomes those with diverse beliefs. This is a wonderful idea if you think of a political party as a social club, a nice place to have drinks and pick up chicks. It is however an idiotic idea if your goal is to have your party stand for something. People in this country are too busy voting for who they think can dance or who is the next American Idol to be bothered researching where candidates for office stand on issues. So they vote for a specific party, assuming that the representative for that party will hold certain beliefs. Like that the Democrat will be in favor of higher taxes, bigger government, and running away from terrorists. This is usually true, but the big tent approach lets some of these people run as Republicans. People like Senators Spector, Chafee, Colins, Snowe, Warner, Jeffords, and Hagel. This means that even when the Republicans controlled the Senate, there were enough 'stealth' Democrats in the party to block any legislation not approved by the DNC. Yet every election, the Republican party would foolishly support these traitors over 'real' Republican candidates, arguing that we needed to have diverse opinions, to be the party of the big tent. A big tent full of people working to destroy everything you believe in. It's time to vote some of these traitors off the island, there is no more room in the tent!

Of course the Republican party offers bigger debt, bigger government, and getting in bed with terrorists (who was it who funded and trained the Taliban? Who sent arms to the Iranians?)

But of course you are correct that far too few people are looking seriously at the issues...that needs to be fixed regardless of political persuasion.

On a previous reply I explain the Taliban was not funded by the US. BTW, the Mujahadeen's chief supporter in Congress was a democrat, Charlie Wilson, though it was Reagan's policy to oppose the Soviets there. Had GHWB and Clinton not ignored the situation, there might have never been a Taliban. As to arms to Iran, we were helping both sides then, which I think worked well. I support helping muslim extremists kill each other!
